Although it seems far from the truth in London, spring isn’t actually that far off. So I pulled together this copper-orange toned looking, inspired by all those Crayola-brights we’ve been seeing on the runway for Spring/Summer 2018.
Even though a change in seasons usually means I run out and splurge on new pieces, I decided to plough through my wardrobe for some golden oldies that could be relevant for this supposedly transitory weather. After all, we don’t need to copy every trend exactly. It’s all about taking inspiration to spruce up your workwear style.
The London weather is about as wintery as it could be right now, but the sun is gradually beginning to show its face amongst the -2 Celsius temperatures. This may sound crazy, but I have actually been loving the freezing-temperature-meets-bright-sunshine combo. Soon it will be time to get the legs out on display, but for now I’m still keeping in a little warmth by layering with this grey polo!
What I love about this look is the pop of bright copper-orange courtesy of the shirt and bag. It’s very bright but still autumnal, and sits as a nice contrast against the usual blues and greys of the corporate environment. What do you think?
The grey and navy contrast help to tone down the brightness, making the orange a little less audacious. In the past I’ve always been a little apprehensive to go for full-on bright colours for fear or standing out a little too much in the office environment, but as I settle into my 30s, I’m really learning not to give a shit! The corporate world seems to be becoming a little less rigid too. Perhaps it’s taking its queues from the advertising and tech worlds? Either way, a little personality can go a long way, especially for women in a male-dominated world, who have to fight that much harder just to get noticed.
All these items were purchased few years ago, but I will be sure to link similar items below. Once again, I think the key message here is to purchase items that will work for you year on year, that suit your everyday lifestyle. These are some of staples I will never ever get rid off!
