My blog posts have been rather slow paced this week, as certain events and a spot of writers block seem to have taken over my life! That in mind, I thought a Casual Friday look would be a good way to end this working week.
‘Casual Friday’ or ‘Dress Down Friday’ is common practice in the corporate world to promote a more relaxed smart–casual dress code as the week draws to a close, but these days it’s a somewhat confusing concept. Though many still keep things pretty smart, I’ve often found some male colleagues can take it to the extreme; bright yellow football t-shirts, baggy jeans and dirty pair of trainers! Maybe I’ve been in the City too long, but I tend to find a lot of men just look a lot less attractive once you lose the suit and up the scruffiness!
Interestingly, some people refuse to participate in this corporate ritual, presumably as it is too stressful to decide what to wear… enter the men who simply remove their ties and undo their top button… TA-DA! Dress-down Friday is in full swing!
Luckily for women, fashion is on our side. We can make something as basic as good pair of jeans, a simple blouse and a slightly sassy heel into the perfect smart-casual Friday look. Personally, my favourite combination is a crisp white shirt, grey skinny jeans, a check blazer and ice-white low-profile trainers!
For me, these are FASHION Fridays – having fun and getting creative with my wardrobe! There ain’t nothing casual or ‘down’ about it! It’s always about the denim to appease the ‘casual’ part, with hint of smart to tick the corporate box, and some glam accessories to take me into Friday evening!
And hey presto, you have today’s look. I’ve been in the market to expand my blue shirt collection (I have way too many white shirts), and of course I fell in love with this blue frilled shirt from & Other Stories, which gives the outfit an effortlessly modern look. I love how playful and youthful it looks, but equally if you swapped the jeans with black trouser, you’d have yourself a smart and feminine business ensemble.
I’ve paired the shirt with my current denim obsession: the Topshop Orson jeans, which are straight leg, high-waisted and cropped at the ankle to show the details on my boots, and edging slightly towards the girlfriend jeans fit.
These Stella McCartney boots have been a staple in my winter wardrobe, and I went ahead and grabbed my usual Chloé Faye bag to contrast all the blues.
Have a great weekend xx
